Joy Smolinski

I have been with CrossFit since March of 2008. Before CrossFit I jogged for 20+ years, doing several 5K runs a year, a couple of 10K races and one 1/2 marathon. 10+ years of aerobics and two years of kick boxing was my exercise program.

Crossfit is now my exercise program! My favorite WOD is anything that involves thrusters or lifting. I like box jumps, climbing the rope or getting on the rings for “skin the cat”. Basically I just like hanging, on anything, bars, ropes and rings. My hardest WOD involves rowing. My goals are to lift heavy weights and get a better string of consecutive pull-ups. I like pushing myself and I’m always up for a “friendly” challenge.

Since starting CrossFit I have taken the Cert. 1 class, Gymnastics Cert class and I will be attending the Barbell Cert class in March 2009. I like knowing everything I can about CrossFit and I enjoy sharing that with others. I find it extremely beneficial in watching the CrossFit videos and reading about the forms and techniques. I occasionally fill in as trainer and find a lot of pleasure and reward in that.

I started the Zone diet in August of 2008 and I love it. I am now measuring better and balancing my meals better. I not only lost 18lbs but I have more strength and energy then I ever had.

Outside of CrossFit, my favorite past time is reading and research. For 7 years I have taught 9th grade religion class. This year’s challenge was to teach 22 students about God who didn’t want to be there. My reading therefore is a lot on theology.

I am currently taking voice lessons and practicing the guitar. I love to sing and I really enjoy playing the guitar. My goal is to sing at Grace Fellowship church.

My coolest past time, besides shopping and the movies with my daughter Stacey, is riding my Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster. That is definitely the funniest thing outside of CrossFit.
